Through an error in the Executive Branch offices, NMNA and the NM Board of Nursing thought that we were going to have to get Nursing Practice Act re-authorized during this upcoming 30-day session, even though we'd succeeded in having the "Sunset Clause" removed from the act. Since we will not have to deal with the Nursing Practice Act this session, we have cancelled Nurses' Day at the Capitol, and will have this event in 2011, when there will be changes in the Nursing Practice Act, to educate the legislators and public about nursing and why the changes are important.
We have four dynamic speakers coming from Washington, DC and New Mexico to educate nurses and nursing students about the legislative process, why politi

This is specifically designed for smaller, rural facilities, as a way of improving the work environment for nurses, thus improving patient outcomes by improving recruitment and RETENTION of nurses.
ANCC has re-named the program Pathway to Excellence.
In late November NMNA and Foundation joined 3 other states in a US Dept. of HHS/ Health Resources and Services Administration grant proposal to assist (in NM) 5 small rural hospitals to achieve the Pathway to Excellence award. If the proposal is awarded, Plains Regional MC, Eastern NM MC, Lea Regional MC, Carlsbad Medical Center, and Lovelace Westside Hospital will be involved in the grant.

On November 29, 2006, the Commission on Accreditation moved to allow ANCC contact hours to be awarded for the teaching modality content only of the classroom based BLS Instructor course. Note that this does not include the BLS content portion of the course. In addition, accredited providers and approved providers cannot award ANCC contact hours for the course offered online or on CD ROM by AHA as these formats preclude the involvement of the accredited/approved continuing education unit in the planning or implementation of the activity.
Effective 12/6/2006, all CE provider applications must be submitted to a new email address. You will find the address on the latest version of the CE provider applications on the Continuing Education page.
